Barcamp KL 2009
I just attended Bar Camp KL over the weekend.
Barcamp this year has so many more sessions than last yr, that at times I wish I can split myself into three.
Even the number of participants probably doubled, though half the crowd were gone on the second day.
Some of the sessions were really informative and enriching, whilst others were just pure waste of time.
It was funny to see when someone trying to promote travel MLM-style business opportunity, and more than half of the people walked out in the middle of the talk.
That's one thing I liked about barcamp...the FREEDOM !
you are free to walk in and out anytime, ask questions and debate and share your thoughts with attendees and presenters.
Not only that..free breakfast / tea break, free t-shirt, free parking. Only sad thing this year...no free lunch and free bags.
Barcamp is a real great place to get motivated, as you see young entrepreneurs who are so lucky to be able to escape the political/ bureaucratic 9-5 corporate jobs.
I longed for the day for me to have that freedom too...

SMART seminar 2008 - day 2 review
Honestly, feeling kinda tired of being marketed at.
Although I had gone to this event knowing that there would be offers after each speaker speaks..yet..its just way too much!
The day started with presentation by Donna Fox on marketing to women. Then offers for participants as usual.
Next up was Simon Leung, talking on the secrets he learnt from google, since he worked for google last time..
Then, a very tempting offer was made.
Lunch break, we went to a Thai restaurant at the Lower ground level of Midvalley.
I didn't bother trying to network with the speakers.
Was just talking to the participants seating near me.
(I was already feeling that its kinda wasted that I paid RM699 , coz even though upgraded as Platinum member meaning lunches with speakers... but I wasn't in the mood to network anymore. Was just so tired of being marketed at).
Imagine how would your day be like meeting insurance agent, MLM people, unit trust people, toys salesmen, all within a span of 8 hours... wont you just get tired of all the sales talk? especially since I am not in the shopping / buying mood, and don't wanna fork out more money.
After lunch, it was a talk by Mark on product creation...and more offers.
Last for the day was Lee and Robins, talking about hybrid marketing.
and the most expensive offer to date.
The funny thing was that, when I was walking out of the hall after the day ends, some of the participants were actually quite turned off with the joking and fooling around style of Lee and Robin.
Apparently the uncles are pissed that they don't seem professional and serious in their presentation.
As for me..I had no feeling already by then... I was just so hungry and looking forward to leave.
Then went out for mamak session with some of the SMART seminar participants.
Had a good time getting to know the people and so now I've found a new group for discussions and masterminding.
Trow is last day of SMART Seminar 2008...we'll see how it goes..

SMART Seminar Malaysia 2008 - day 1
Its the first day of SMART Seminar Malaysia 2008.
This the first time its held in Malaysia.
Definitely exciting as I had been looking forward to attending it for the past few weeks.
I had prepared new business cards and looked forward to the networking opportunities.
Sure enough, once the event started at 9am, I was busy getting to know people seated around me.
Amazingly, many of them are way older than me. That's one thing I noticed when going to Internet Marketing events / previews/ seminars...
its mostly the uncles and aunties who are keen to know and mostly are newbies.
Where are the youngsters ?
I guess they are contented with their life at the moment, enjoying it with their parents money or their new salary.. that the issue of finding more income does not cross their mind.
Anyway.. the SMART seminar 2008 started with opening by Stuart Tan and Simon .
Then it was a round of intro of all the speakers.
Then, the first speaker up was Robert Puddy, who spoke on membership sites.
then as expected, came the special offer for the SMART seminar participants.
After that, we were broken up to small groups, and the speakers rotated around each group and spend about 20 minutes each, answering queries etc.
Then came lunch, and I got to have lunch with the speakers being in the Platinum group .
It was at a fusion restaurant at midvalley, nearby chilli's.
The service was bad and confusing with the staff from China.
kinda gave a bad impression of malaysia to these visitors from US and UK.
the food was ok, but I wouldnt pay for a meal there in future.
Then after lunch, another round of breakout session.
Then it was a presentation by Anik Singal.. which spoke on how to make money as affiliate using pay per click..
and of course, more offers for participants..
Also met Gobala Krishnan from Internet Millionaires Club and his staff Joey.
Overall, it was an informative day..I wonder what Day 2 of SMART seminar holds for me ...

Post blogging bootcamp
The recent weekend was indeed very exciting. I attended the Blogging Bootcamp by Melvin Ng and Steven Wong.
My brains are now packed to the brim with all the new things I learnt about wordpress, but the best part of it all were the tips that were not in the handout, such as adwordsanywhere, seoquake , the colour picker, etc
Despite the hiccups on the first day, the organisers were quick to think on their feet to suggest alternative options for us to complete our bootcamp satisfactorily.
Super excited now to implement whatever I learnt from the bootcamp, and combine it with the tips I got from Super Affiliate Blogger handbook ...that should help me get back my returns on investment as quickly as possible.

Events attended in Dec2007-Feb 2008
Dec 2007, Jan 2008 & Feb 2008 had been very interesting & busy month..almost every weekend I was away for some meetings/seminar/etc.
In my pursuit towards increasing my knowledge towards becoming a millionaire, I've attended some of the following events:
14- 16 Dec 2007
Property & Investment Seminar in Federal Hotel, KL
This seminar, though expensive, was definitely worth it for someone like me who have very little knowledge on property investment. Day 1 of seminar was more on entrepreneurship & financial management, Day 2 was on property investments and property investment game, Day 3 was a continuation of property investment and half a day session on stock investment. It was also a great networking session and I met several new business partners, which led to us currently working on a project with.
30 Dec 2007
Life Changing Party at Awana Genting:
This event was held for the first time in Asia. It's based on to the Law of Attraction concept. Everyone attending were requested to come as who they want to be in 5 yrs time, and picture that the event was actually in year 2012. We were given 1 million LCP dollars to spend on purchasing properties, shares, auctions, donations, etc. Those who aspired to be singers could have their own album produced on that night. It was an eye-opening experience and a must for all future millionaires.
1 Jan 2007
Backpacking website project meeting #1
This project was the brainchild of this quirky energetic girl I met at the property investment seminar. Our team was formed consisting 3 malaysians and 1 Singaporeans.
7 Jan 2008
1st meeting with Uni of Melbourne Young Alumni at Midvalley Gardens
This was the 1st of many meetings that started my full-on involvement with Uni of Melbourne Alumni Association. It felt great to be working in teams organising events for fellow alumnis.
13 Jan 2007
Backpacking website project meeting #2
I did not expect that the team could work so well together, that our meeting lasted for 9 hours (9am-6pm). One thing I liked about having meeting with this team is that I learn new things like Feng Shui tips, share tips, auction properties, health tips and loads more.
19 Jan 2008
National Youth Entrepreneur Convention at PWTC
This convention was a real motivation booster, seeing so many young entrepreneurs already making a mark in society even before they turn 30. It really inspired me that if others can, I can too. At this event, I met the now famous blogger Kenny Sia, whom I have met in the National Liaison Committee Annual Conference for International Students in Perth in year 2000. Who would have though Kenny could be so famous now.
23 Jan 2008
Backpack project meeting #3
Our backpack project has progressed well. we have identified our niche market and the potential content sections of our website.
26 Jan 2008
Website Building workshop
I have attended this workshop last year, where I learnt to build website using NVU. decided to attend another round this year for refresher. Got really good value, coz the syllabus had been changed to teach people to build website using wordpress. As always, I would recommend those interested in making money online to join this workshop. It only cost about RM180 for a hands-on workshop.
29 Jan 2008
UMAA Young Alumni mtg #2
The team decided the 1st alumni event of yr 2008 - Moonlight Mingle was to be held at KL Tower. Who would have thought how successful the event would later turn out to be.
16 February 2008
Internet Millionaires Club Mastermind Session
I'm so glad I signed up for this event. Its rare to meet fellow budding Internet Marketers, and established internet marketers in person such as Gobala Krishnan, Steven Wong, Mervin Ng, Khai, Sunny and others.
Definitely looking forward to the next session.
19 Feb 2008
UMAA Malaysia Young Alumni Meeting
Just another few days to our event day, the committee had efficiently sorted out many of the required arrangements. We thought we would be lucky to have 50 people turned up, but instead we had 125 people signing up and begging to attend. amazing!!
20 Feb 2008
Dinner at Australian High Commisioner's Residence
Finally I get to attend a private function at a High Commisioner's house. Its been years since I last had been invited to such event. It felt really good inside, and also another great opportunity to network.
22 Feb 2008
Moonlight Mingle at KL Tower
UMAA Malaysia's first event of the year went on with no glitches. KL Tower staff did a superb job in transforming the Megaview Banquet deck to a relaxing atmosphere with the dim lights, candles and canapes. Definitely had a great time, worth all the phone calls and effort.
28 Feb 2008
Moonlight Mingle celebration dinner
The young committee were all excited for our next event, which most likely be held in April.
Overall, I'm looking forward to other things in store in the next few months, e.g the Asia Trader & Investor Convention on Mar 22-23 at KL Convention Center, the next IMC mastermind session and loads more events.
